NaNoWriMo has begun

Filed under: Uncategorized — rwestcot @ 9:38 pm

November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). This month, tons of people share one goal. Writing 50,000 words between the 1st and 31st of November. You can start planning your story as early as you’d like, but you can’t start writing until the month begins. This year, I decided to take the challenge. I decided this just a few weeks ago, so I didn’t have much prep time. Hopefully that won’t prevent me from making substantial progress on my story idea, which I’ve had for a while but have never found the time to work on. My goal isn’t necessarily to write 50,000 words (though I’m sure going to try), but really just to spend time writing every day, even if it’s just a few sentences.

I wanted to share my goal with you to help keep me going. By telling you I have more incentive to stick with it. :-)

If you’re participating as well, let me know! We can be cheerleaders for each other. And now, back to writing.

Current word count: 1,055

Homework is hard

Filed under: Uncategorized — rwestcot @ 9:10 pm

I started school August 27th. I’m only taking one class but it’s not an easy one. Dewey Decimal is not fun. It’s not hard to miss a direction and end up with a completely wrong number. I’ve been doing my homework and then checking my answers after I do a few. I’ve gotten almost all of them wrong. Luckily I can usually figure out my mistake when I go back through (with the help of seeing the right answer of course). Here’s hoping it really does get easier as I use it more.

Am I too eclectic for my own good?

Filed under: Uncategorized — rwestcot @ 6:17 pm

I’m interested in a lot of things. Crocheting, writing, drawing, dancing, singing, acting, playing instruments, skateboarding, playing soccer, and so on and so forth. The thing is, there are so many things I like doing (or want to learn to do) that I can’t seem to do any one thing for more than a few days before moving on to something new that has piqued my interest. Which means that:

    • I don’t finish things (stories, drawings, other projects)
    • I don’t remember what I’ve learned (Spanish, how to crochet, how to play clarinet)

I want to remedy this problem and my years at Cornell College have taught me that immersion can be a good thing. So I think I’ll try that. I’ll pick one activity that interests me and submerse myself in it. Maybe I’ll spend a month re-learning to play the clarinet by playing it regularly instead of spending an evening on it and giving it up for another activity. Now the only question is which activity to start with. I’m leaning towards either writing or drawing at this point. Any suggestions?

      I’ve got an idea

You may or may not have noticed that lolthings (ICHC, LOL BOTS, Lolbrarians, etc.) have taken over the web. I got to thinking about all the photos of a certain young man that were just begging to be captioned. And so, I think I will start my own lolsite. I will call it LolBoys and it will feature the boys we love so much in all their silliness. Yes, that’s right, I want you all to help me out. I know you’ve got pictures, so send them to me with captions (they do not have to be on the pictures, I can add them myself). Please only send pictures of your own boy (with permission) so that (should you get permission while said boy is drunk or otherwise not paying attention) they know exactly who is responsible. I claim no responsibility. Hopefully I can get the site running before too long, but feel free to start sending pictures immediately. I only have so many of my own you know.

      Revival

Filed under: Uncategorized — rwestcot @ 1:30 pm

I live! Okay, there may be no proof of it here, but it’s true. I’m loving the new job but still finding it hard to get going in the morning. Of course it would help if my brother who found a job there as well didn’t start half an hour earlier than me (and need a ride). Such is life. So I get up just after 6 and get home just before 6 and then I don’t want to do anything, especially on my supercrap computer. And it keeps getting worse. Well, mostly it’s been the monitor lately, but I know it’s dying. I fully intend to start saving for a laptop immediately. Contributions are very welcome.

I’ve started working out a bit. Yoga mostly right now, but hopefully when the weather turns nice I’ll be out biking or walking/jogging or whatnot. And I really want a DDR pad because that’s totally legit exercise and fun to boot.

Our living room is practically new due to some excellent timing. There’s a new TV (which was very planned), a new couch (somewhat planned), and a matching recliner (totally unexpected). We went to a going out of business sale and found this couch we both liked. Amazing in and of itself. 60% off! Excellent deal. Purchase’d! Went back for it a few days later and lo and behold, it comes with a recliner. Astounded! We managed to fit it and we’re quite happy with it. Now we’re just waiting on the new coffee table before the living room renovation is complete. Hopefully we’ll have that in a few weeks. Pictures will possibly follow. Continued reminders of this comment to encourage the fulfilling of it are accepted.

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away is also my birthday. Yay! I have created a wishlist for the occasion. Interested parties may find it here. I’m hoping to get a wishlist page up on this site at some point, but we’ll see.

Okay, time to run off and watch some TV while I eat something, then it’s off to the superbowl party before coming back home before going to audition for some short plays (wish me luck!). Have a great day!

      New Comic

Filed under: Uncategorized — rwestcot @ 9:37 am

I’m guessing this will be my most common reason for posting here. Unless you want to suggest something I should use this for. (hint hint)

Anyhow, this one’s not plot related, thus making it a special issue. Also making it special is the fact that I FINALLY HAVE A REAL JOB! So there you have it.

      Hello World!

Okay, I realize I haven’t finished the next comic like I was going to. Instead, I was working on this! So Tell What U Think of course. Also, if you notice any wacky coloring, etc. please make me aware of it, because it’s probably from the theme I was editing and I missed it. I’ll try to get the next comic up next week.
